Surface waves water

Mechanical waves in water.

A wave is an oscillation or disturbance that propagates through some medium (in the case of electromagnetic radiation and gravity waves, this medium is space itself), accompanied by the transfer of energy. A wave never causes a disturbance in the displacement of the particles (throughout its time interval at that particular point of the particle) of the medium.

Waves can be described by their amplitude and frequency.

Types of Waves[]

There are mainly two types of waves:

  • Mechanical Waves
  • Electromagnetic Waves
